Recently, I had the chance to experience the Live Jazz City Lights Sunset Cruise with Classic Harbor Line, and it was everything I hoped it would be and more.

Karen, my blogger bestie from Wanderous Karen, joined me for the evening as we made our way to Chelsea Piers to board the beautiful America 2.0 at Pier 62. The vessel itself is breathtaking — a stunning 105-foot schooner featuring 3,600 square feet of sail area that instantly transports you away from the chaos of the city.

Before boarding, we checked in using our digital tickets. The cruise had organized safety procedures in place, including mask requirements and sectioned boarding to allow for social distancing. Guests were assigned a letter corresponding to their designated seating area, making the process smooth and organized. Masks were required while moving around the ship unless you were seated enjoying a drink or snapping a quick photo.

Once we set sail, the experience became pure magic.

For two hours, we cruised along the Hudson River as the city slowly lit up around us. Watching the sun dip behind the skyline while the skyscrapers reflected the changing colors of the evening sky was absolutely breathtaking. We even got an up-close view of the Statue of Liberty glowing against the sunset — one of those classic New York moments that never gets old.

The soundtrack to the evening came courtesy of Mike and The Boat Band, whose live jazz performance created the perfect laid-back atmosphere. Between the music, the views, and the cool evening breeze, it truly felt like one of those quintessential NYC summer nights.

If you’re planning to go, I definitely recommend arriving early since boarding begins promptly. Pier 62 also has a lovely park area that’s perfect for relaxing or having a small picnic beforehand. When we visited, there weren’t many dining options open nearby, so grabbing a bite before boarding is a good idea. You’re also allowed to bring water onboard, and hand sanitizer is always a smart addition to your bag.

There’s honestly nothing quite like seeing New York City from the water. Watching the skyline sparkle as the boat glides through the harbor is both relaxing and unforgettable — a perfect date night, girls’ night, or even solo adventure.
